What is SketchyPhysics and How Can I Get It?
Sketchyphysicsis a plugin written by C. Phillips for Google's 3-D program Sketchup. It allows the objects you draw in Sketchup to 'come to life' in a realworld simulation with gravity, collisions and interactions with otherobjects.
If you want to install it, you must first have the latest version of Sketchup installed. (It is free.) Then do a Google search for Sketchyphysics, and follow the links.
It is an amazing addition to Sketchup, but finding any help, even a simple starters guide is next to impossible.
Ifyou've seen the You-Tube video of even the simple car rolling down ahill and then tried to make it, you'll see exactly how frustrating SPcan be when wheels float in the air, the body falls off, or the damnthing just won't move!
SketchyPhysics 3.2 enabled! After extensive modifications from a number of artists here, I've ended up with this. Includes a small course to test out the SP on it. Originally it was supposed to be a Ford Raptor SVT, unfortunately it exceeds the warehouse's 10MB file. I've just included a picture of it in this model. Original rims - marian87 (modified now) winch - yantski.
My goal of these few humble pages is toprovide a starting point so anyone who knows Sketchup can startexperimenting with the physics.
This isn't going to be acomprehensive help site, but rather a diving board so you can start thelearning process on your own. This also won't be a Sketchup guide. Iassume you are already proficient in Sketchup before starting here.
If you need more information than you can find in this guide, stop on by the SketchyPhysics Forum that is a part of the SketchUp Community Forums.
LET'S GET STARTED.1. You need to have SketchyPhysics3 installed and be on a Windows platform.2. IMPORTANT: For every object that you wish to animate, you have to rick-click and ENABLE INSTANCING (This requirement will hopefully be eliminated in a future release). You can also select a group of objects and right-click->enable instancing.
3. Enable Recording in the SketchyReplay Toolbar
4. Run the Physics Simulation
5. When prompted, save the SketchyReplay animation.
6. You can review the animation by using the SketchyReplay Toolbar.
7. Set up your camera position and render settings in SkIndigo. Make sure you set the halt time so that each frame will not render forever.
8. Go to the SkIndigo menu to export the SketchyReplay animation
